Good morning and happy hump day! I want to discuss the importance of setting goals in order to be more productive, which in turn will lead to self-satisfaction and happier days :)
I stated in my previous blog post how I haven't really had any true structure in my life for the past 5 months since living in NYC. Because I don't have a full-time job, or even a consistent part-time job (yet), my days have contained endless amounts of freedom. While there can be many benefits to that, it can also be very challenging (not to mention, hard to want to give up that freedom for a job). It has literally taken me from March until now, mid July, to realize it was crucial for me to start instilling some type of structure in my days in order to be productive and feel happier with myself. I realized that it was up to me to better structure my days, and in order to do that, I had to set DAILY GOALS for myself, the night beforehand.
Starting this blog was something I have been thinking about for probably a month or so. When I was in Boston last week, I set a goal for that week that I was going to totally redo this website, make it a blog, and write at least 2 blog posts. One thing I LOVE about Boston is I have a beautiful workspace to work in, which helps a TON. My brother co-owns a web agency (where I used to be a digital designer) called AMALGAM. It is located right on Newbury Street, and if you follow me on Instagram, I'm sure you have seen me post stories about it. Setting this goal for myself (which I did break up day by day) forced structure into my life. I was actually surprised (and proud) how easy it was to achieve the things I wanted once I just wrote them down and made an agreement with myself to conquer them. Setting goals is something we are pretty much taught our whole lives, but I think we often look past setting daily or weekly goals for ourselves, since we tend to think more long term (or at least I do anyways).
The thing I love about this blog is that it gives me something to do. It is an outlet for me to be creative, and it is something I can continue to build. It inspires me to want to learn more, explore more, and ultimately, just do more. I live quite an interesting life, and I am constantly challenged to do better with the career path I am choosing (modeling & entertainment) and just living in New York City. Living in NYC is far from easy, but it's also the challenge that drives me. It's like, once I conquer living and being successful here, I know I can make it anywhere.
With all that being said, I want you to take away from this how simple it is to set daily goals for yourself, but how beneficial it is. It's essential to WRITE THEM DOWN, somewhere important where you will see them. For me, I write them on my Stickie notes on my computer. You could also set reminders on your phone for when you wake up! Either way, make an achievable list the night beforehand. I say the night beforehand so that when you wake up, you already know what you want to do that day - it immediately sets you up for a more productive day. I also always make sure I have at least one goal that is on there for myself, not something that I NEED to do (whether it is to go to the gym, write a blog post, make a budget, make a new friend, send out 3 job applications, whatever!)
By setting these daily goals for myself, I actually look forward to each day. It's the importance of the little things we do day to day that will lead us to achieving our bigger dreams!
